Fe Fi Fo Fum …. planting beans is so much fun!
Primary 1/2 are thoroughly enjoying their new topic based on the traditional tale ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.
The children planted beans in jam jars using only a damp piece of tissue to enable them to observe the seed cracking open with roots going down and a shoot growling up. They experimented by putting beans in jars in different locations in the classroom - some with water or sunlight and some without. They learned that seeds need both water and sunlight to grow.
Soon it was time to plant the beans in soil as they were not getting any food from the damp tissue and would soon stop growing. So today the children planted their seeds in yogurt pots which they had cleaned out. They were amazed at the size of the roots coming from their beans already and carefully placed these into the yogurt pots without causing any damage.
We hope that the seeds grow into big, strong beanstalks. But not TOO big ….. with a giant at the top! 😯☺️
