The children in Primary 5/6 have been working on a floating and sinking project as part of their World Around Us topic of ‘The Vikings’.
The children investigated why some items float and others do not and they build boats using various materials.
They decided to build a Viking Long Boat after their investigative work and were fortunate to have the expertise of local man Mrs Sean Cunningham who worked with the children to create their long boat.
The children travelled to the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, to present their finished project at the Sentinus ‘Big Bang’ Fair where schools from throughout Ireland had gathered.
At the event, the children spoke to officials about their work, attended workshops and had an opportunity to view some of the work presented by other schools.
They all agreed that it was a wonderful experience.
