Local Landscapes and Legends

This project was developed to compliment teaching and learning of oral language through a creative process.  It was designed to focus on the connection between school, community and locality.  The stimulus was an exploration of local landmarks and the history and heritage associated with them, specifically Greencastle.

During the month of January 2013, the children in Key Stage Two began to research the history of the local area, they had a great number of questions they needed answered.  Presentation were made by Miss Catherine Hudson, Mourne Local Studies, and Mr Sean Cunningham, Carlingford Lough Pilot, and these proved to be very popular with the children.  The children were enthusiastic, engaged with the visitors and asked very thoughtful and intelligent questions, so much so that both visitors were highly impressed with their level of interest and engagement.
