Celebrating 150 years of Greenore

30th Apr 2023

We were invited to join in celebrations to mark 150 years of Greenore today, Sunday 30th April.  It was the culmination of our recent cross border project.

A group of Primary 6 girls met at the ferry terminal in Greencastle and made the short journey across the lough, entertaining passengers as they travelled, to Greenore where they were warmly welcomed.

The girls watched Carlingford and Altnaveigh Pipe Bands perform, heard speeches about the significance of the occasion, joined in a parade, entertained on the street and in the Assembly room and enjoyed delicious refreshments.  They were sorry to have to leave again in time to catch the ferry back home!

On the way back to the terminal in Greenore they performed at the shore front for Pat Halpenny who is an accomplished entertainer and accordionist from Cooley.  He was delighted to hear the girls singing ‘Farewell to Carlingford’.

A fantastic afternoon was had by everyone.  We are most grateful to Brian Larkin and the team in Greenore for extending the invitation and welcoming us today.

Thank you to the girls who enthusiastically played tin whistle, played guitar and sang in Greenore today.  You are so talented and we very proud of your performances for your audiences today.  πŸŽΆπŸ‘πŸ»
