The Carlingford Lough Disaster

26th Sep 2016

We welcomed special visitors to our school on Monday 26th September.

Mr M O'Hare and Mrs J McAreavey from Newry Maritime Association visited us to commemorate the disaster in which the SS Connemara and the SS Retriever collided on 3rd November 1916 with the loss of 94 lives.

All of the children in our school had been learning about the disaster, many of them did their own research at home!

The children, and family members who attended, thoroughly enjoyed the informative presentation and took part by answering and asking very thoughtful questions.

We are grateful to Newry Maritime Association for their time and expertise.  We also wish to thank Mr Sean Cunningham, Haulbowline lighthouse attendant from Greencastle, and Mr Peyton Cunningham, Grandfather of pupils Callum and Clarice for visiting our school also.
